Cung le vs Anderson Silva-Only The UFC Knows For Sure
The world got a taste of Cung Le
on March 29th, 2008 as he and Frank Shamrock clashed in San Jose, California.
In an unusual deal, Elite XC teamed up with rival league Strikeforce in order to bring these two champions together. (Elite XC, the larger of the two recently presented their third primetime fight night on CBS to millions of MMA fans worldwide. Frank Shamrock, a veteran UFC fighter and now Elite XC color man, took the fight with Cung Le with his usual outspoken, cocky demeanor. Unfortunately for Frank Shamrock, Cung Le wasn’t having any it and came to win!
The two traded blows in a spectacular sparring session while Cung Le consistently chipped away at Frank Shamrock with devastating head and body kicks. Shamrock made the mistake of taunting his opponent one too many times as Le eventually put and end to it at the final bell of the third round. Frank Shamrock was unable to return for round four due to a broken arm.
Cung Le had shown the world his MMA metal once and for all.
But wait, there’s still the UFC and that’s where MMA fans and fighters now want to see him battle Anderson Silva.
The fight world is still a buzz with chatter about a potential fight between Cung Le and Anderson Silva. It is now more than 5 months after his impressive victory over UFC and Elite XC champion Frank Shamrock and chat rooms and forums the internet over are still discussing it.
Some say Dana White, UFC President and front man has already tried to bring Cung Le over to the UFC.
There is much speculation as to whom he would fight, the obvious pick is Anderson Silva. It has also been speculated that Cung Le ‘s Strikeforce contract would have to be purchased by the UFC on top of the prize money to take the fight.
Whether or not Strikeforce is even amenable to this is unknown.
One thing is for sure, if the UFC wants it, Strikeforce allows it and Cung Le takes the fight, we are all in for an epic battle.
Both Anderson Silva and Cung Le are at the top of their game right now, healthy and ready to go. MMA fans want it but at this point we’ll have to let Strikeforce and the UFC duke this one out.
